The dynamic survival game Captain of Industry has just launched an extensive Update 1, offering a myriad of enhancements, additions, and alterations set to intensify the industrial journey of survivors stranded on an island. The objective of the game revolves around extracting raw materials, growing food, building factories, manufacturing products, conducting tech research, and engaging in trading, all of which are geared toward transforming players into an industrial powerhouse.

One of the highlight improvements of this update is seen in the graphics. Players can now experience the dynamic changes in weather with the added sun, fog, and sky elements. Terrain textures have been significantly enhanced, with an innovative simulated ocean system that adapiously modifies wave patterns and color properties in accordance with the weather conditions. Among the additions are new tree models, an upgraded terrain grass coverage system, and an increase in the diversity of terrain by incorporating impassable rocks which can, however, serve as foundation for building constructions. Furthermore, products are now displayed on conveyors, trucks, and storage units, significantly improving the game’s realism.

The game’s user interface also sees a facelift, as does its auditory experience with the inclusion of eight new music tracks. With regards to forestry, a new Forestry tower and tree planter vehicle have been introduced, enabling automated tree replanting and harvesting.

The update also delivers an upgrade in the form of mixed mining and hauling. Excavators can now mine mixed products, and trucks can transport mixed cargo, thereby improving mining efficiency. In addition, a new widget for vehicles allows for tier replacements, keeping assignments intact. Vehicle scheduling has also been optimized for better performance.

Major features are not left out in this massive update. Notably, players can now build pipes vertically, making optimal use of space while changing levels. A newly introduced terrain designation feature facilitates the leveling of terrains, combining mining and dumping functionalities.

Nuclear energy has also been significantly revamped. With the addition of new reactors and a nuclear reprocessing facility, players are presented with an expanded range of nuclear-related products. Meanwhile, the rules regarding the handling of nuclear waste and fuel have been revised for a more immersive gaming experience.

On the resource front, a new mineable resource, quartz, has been added and is now the primary source for creating sand. There is also a restructuring in silicon production as it now requires sand instead of quartz. Moreover, the manufacturing process for sand has been diversified to include crushing rock as an alternative method.

Changes in the realm of computing include the addition of a mainframe, which makes the development of microchips more manageable. Additionally, microchip production is now faster and more affordable. In a complementary change, the cost of server racks has increased, but their computing output has been doubled.

This update also sees the introduction of a number of new machines and buildings such as a Thermal storage, Tier 2 diesel generator, Tier 2 electrolyzer, Tier 2 mixer, Tier 2 crusher, a Waste incineration plant, Compactor, and Shredder. A fresh addition is the Captain’s Office I which provides basic edicts and makes blueprints available earlier, while the previous office has been upgraded to Captain Office II, offering access to advanced edicts.

Continuing with the changes, electricity surplus now has a reduced effect on production, leading to a more balanced gameplay. Conveyor belts and storages have been improved, with storages now stacking items vertically. This not only enhances storage capacity but also makes item retrieval more efficient. A significant overhaul has also been applied to landfill decay: landfill now gradually decays over time, leading to a constant need for maintenance.

Update 1 introduces several game balancing changes. The costs of several products have been adjusted, resulting in a better balance between reward and effort. The introduction of tier-based pricing makes late-game items more expensive, but also more rewarding. Moreover, the supply and demand curves for the trading mechanic have been altered to provide a more realistic market behavior.

Balancing changes have also been applied to technology research. More technologies now require blueprints, and research speed has been adjusted for a more challenging gameplay. Additionally, the cost of tech points has been increased, making the overall tech progression slower.

The patch brings about some bug fixes as well. A problem causing vehicles to get stuck on roads has been addressed, and an issue with power lines getting disconnected after saving the game has been fixed. An array of minor bugs and glitches reported by the community have also been rectified.

Finally, the game’s tutorial has been updated, with an expanded focus on explaining the new features introduced in this patch. The user manual has been expanded to include more comprehensive information about the game’s mechanics and systems, making it more user-friendly for newcomers to the game.

You can read all of the details on this patch in the official patch notes on Steam.
