Caverns of Mars Recharged, the latest in Atari’s series of revamped classics, has released a new trailer announcing a launch date for March 9th, 2023. As with previous Recharged games, it will feature plenty of new content, including an original soundtrack.

Caverns of Mars Recharged will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch. Here’s the new release date trailer from Atari:

Atari has consistently done a tremendous job of revisiting their classic arcade games for the Recharged series. Most of the games have managed to retain their personality during the modernized updates, and much of the fresh content has been pretty satisfying.

Atari has always mustered a striking balance between indulging the desired nostalgia and adding enough incentives to actually play the new version. Today’s trailer for Caverns of Mars Recharged focuses mainly on gameplay footage, and it doesn’t show a lot of features that fans should expect. However, local co-op is an arcade staple, and always welcome to see again.

One of the most important aspects of the Recharged series is basically the selection itself. There are countless Atari hits that deserve the updated treatment, at the very least to invite new audiences to the genre.

Fortunately, Atari has made some of the obvious choices, such as Asteroids, Centipede, and Missile Command. Those are fundamentally smart, interesting, and entertaining games.

Caverns of Mars is a little more obscure than those Atari titans, so it’s nice to see Atari delve into lesser known games that are equally beloved. Hopefully, Atari will give some kind of update on what they plan to “recharge” next now that Caverns of Mars Recharged is set for March.
