The Canada-based developer, Chainsawesome Games, has announced that the studio would be closing operations. The studio is known for titles such as Aftercharge, Knight Squad, and Beatblasters.

Chainsawesome Games is a small independent studio founded in 2012 that has brought action-packed and multiplayer-focused games for PC and Consoles. Their games received several honorable mentions and prizes such as Best Audio Design at Intel Level Up 2013 and Destructoid’s Best of PAX East 2015 award. In 2014, they won first prize at the Pixel Challenge 48-hour Game Jam with their first iteration of Knight Squad.

Recently, Chainsawesome Games announced on their Discord channel that the company has decided to shut down due to the failure of Aftercharge and the average success of Knight Squad 2, which has placed too much pressure on the employees, both financially and emotionally. Here is the full statement of Chainsawesome Games, as shared by Twitter account MauroNL:

It is with a broken heart that we have to announce that Chainsawesome Games is shutting down. The failure of Aftercharge and the average success of Knight Squad 2 put too much pressure on us financially and emotionally and our new prototype did not meet our expectations. We concluded that it was time to move on and say goodbye.

We want to thank everyone in this community for your support through all those years. You gave us the motivation to create innovative new games and push our limits. We will always remember the fun we had when we developed Aftercharge with your help and when we played all together during the playtest sessions. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you and we will forever be grateful for your dedication towards our studio.

We will miss you all.

The Chainsawesome team

Back in June 2021, Chainsawesome made the announcement that they would be permanently discontinuing their tactical 3v3 game, Aftercharge. Even so, the studio also stated at that time that their journey had not yet come to an end, implying that there will be more developments in the years to come. However, in light of the latest announcement, it appears that the Canadian developer has already settled on the decision that they will not continue working on any future games in any form.
