Chivalry 2, the popular medieval hack and slash sequel from developer Torn Banner Studios, has just released a brand-new “Raiding Party” update alongside a gameplay trailer.
The update will be free for PS Plus members, and is available today. It features the new Sacking of Bridgetown map, Heavy Cavalry Sword, and a Cross-Play Parties Beta that would allow friends on different platforms to matchmake together.
Chivalry 2 originally released in June 2021, and is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Starting tomorrow, May 2nd, fans can also play Chivalry 2 as a PS Plus monthly game. You can watch the full Raiding Party gameplay trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel:
New content this expansive is always appreciated, especially a couple of years after launch. But the clear highlight is the introduction of cross-platform parties, which is still in beta, but a long-requested feature that should help renew a lot of interest.
The scope of Chivalry 2 battles plays a large role in its appeal, and deeply contributes to the gritty medieval theme. Although cross-platform gaming has been possible, the chance to group up with friends ahead of time will definitely create more of a team dynamic that reinforces immersion and coordination.
As a result, the battlefield is going to become more strategic and intense in crossplay lobbies, and players will only need simple Invite Codes to get started. In a new PlayStation blog post, the devs got ahead of any backlash by reminding players that the feature is still in Beta, and already being smoothed out.
There are hints of playfulness in all of the new features, which make Chivalry 2 so memorable. The opportunity to hold out the Heavy Cavalry Sword and lead a charge, or the objective for tossing nobles out of windows, both add creative and silly chaos.
