Transporting people and cargo looks more elaborate and compelling than ever, with a variety of options that each have their own unique advantages and drawbacks.

It’s a delight to see how flexible each of the new mechanics are, which will be very accessible for newcomers to the series. For example, trains can carry either people or cargo, and subways can use elevated tracks. This could help players out of a pinch while incorporating them into existing designs, but it would also give your city a totally new personality.

All of the public transports require unique management and can freely be woven into existing or growing cities. Also, it seems like managing the population will evenly progress alongside the needs of new transports.

Trains, ships, and planes were the focus for cargo. It’ll surely be a thrill that players can trade with other cities, a missing element that is sure to add more realism. And although the graphics are underwhelming compared to previous Feature Highlights, the description warns that the in-game footage is not final.

Ultimately, it’s neat to see how multi-purpose the transportation will become in Cities: Skylines II, thanks to some new mechanics, particularly the addition of an outside world to engage with. Any of the transportation features could easily be the subject of their own sim game.
