Call of Duty, the franchise with more war stories than any other, has finally announced a release date for its 2022 game. Modern Warfare 2 received an artwork trailer today that ended with an official release date of Oct 28. The trailer shows a drone flying over some official artwork accompanied by the voices of the game’s main characters as they prepare for a mission.
The trailer appears as a cool art showcase, but it offers more than it seems at first. There’s some graffiti on the side of a storage container at around the 45-second mark, where you can see “J-8-22.” This indicates that something else will be released on June or July 8. Many have speculated that it will be the first gameplay trailer that will be revealed.
Some of the Call of Duty influencers got the opportunity to see this in person, and they also shared some intel about the new game. Twitter user Charlieintel shared close-up versions of the artwork that’s depicted in the trailer, accompanied by their names.
Eagle-eyed users quickly noticed that their faces had maps on them, likely pointing to the different locations where players will be fighting in the upcoming game. Activision Blizzard has clearly given players much more information than what first appears.
As well-known leaker Tom Henderson points out, the map on Ghost’s face in the promotional artwork is the Gulf of California, where a battle may occur. Call of Duty has brought the battle to America before and may be gearing up to do it again in Modern Warfare 2.
Outside of the artwork and trailer release date, there’s no other info on Modern Warfare 2 yet. It will likely take place where the previous entry left off. Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 2 will be available soon, and the release trailer is likely to be in line with the next generation of the Modern Warfare series.
