Crab Champions released a patch with bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Crab Champions is a fast-paced shooter game with roguelike elements where players can travel across exotic islands, defeat hordes of enemies, and collect loot to become as powerful as possible. The game can be played solo or with up to 3 other players. It has 20-40 minute runs with the option to loop endlessly to survive as long as possible. It debuted as an early access game on April 1st and has just released a second update!

One of the major updates is the return of locked inventory slots, which were a contentious issue. However, the cost to unlock each slot has been reduced to mitigate the problem.

The patch introduces a new enemy, the Blocker Skull, and a new tropical island for players to explore. The combo system has also been reworked to provide more direct use in making new build options. It starts off at 1.0x and increases to 5.0x after eliminating 500 enemies without getting hit. Once you get hit, your combo resets back down to 1.0x.

To complement the “don’t get hit” gameplay style, three new perks were added: Crystal Combo, Damage Combo, and Healthy Combo. Each of these perks has a unique effect that is triggered by the player’s current combo level. For instance, Crystal Combo causes enemies to drop more crystals depending on the player’s current combo level.

There were also several balance changes made to the game, such as increasing the Orb Launcher’s damage and reducing the Launcher Crab’s projectile count to two. Playing With Power was removed from the loot pool temporarily as it was causing a lot of accidental deaths, but the developers plan to rework it in the future.

Anti-softlock measures were added to prevent enemies from getting stuck in weird places on the islands, and various bullet trail effects were toned back to improve performance. The hitboxes on many assets, including trees and chests, were improved, and various spawn points that caused issues were fixed.

The patch notes also include various bug fixes that address issues such as infinite key and loot exploits, broken collision borders, and spawning issues after completing a parkour island.
