Square Enix has published a new preview for Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion, showcasing the fan-favorite heroine Tifa Lockhart, fresh details on the magic and abilities in the game, and a brand new gameplay feature using the legendary Buster Sword. This highly anticipated prequel to Final Fantasy VII will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on December 13, 2022.
Tifa Lockhart, the beloved heroine from Final Fantasy VII, has been revealed to be one of the characters that Zack Fair will encounter in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion. In this prequel to Final Fantasy VII, Britta Baron will reprise her role as Tifa Lockhart, providing voice acting for the character. Tifa is a young girl who lives in the town of Nibelheim and is also Cloud’s childhood friend. Tifa is chosen to guide a Shinra investigation team, led by Zack and Sephiroth, to the Nibelheim mako reactor.
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion will also have a new feature, known as The Buster Sword battle stance. This is a new gameplay feature introduced to this version of Crisis Core, allowing Zack to expend attack points (AP) in order to take on a Battle Stance. This transforms his normal attacks into “Strong Attacks” or dramatically increases the damage dealt by his abilities.
During the course of the narrative, Zack may also engage in minigames and trigger sub-events. Completing minigames yields objects and gil, some of which are necessary to initiate specific sub-events. The minigames and sub-events featured in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion are as follows:
- Physical fitness test (squats)
- You can play the squats challenge in the training room of the Shinra Building. Perform more squats than the opponent can within one minute to win.
- Building the flower wagon
- Sub-event involving building a flower wagon for Aerith. Hand Aerith the items to use as materials and build a unique creation.
As the plot develops, Zack will receive mail from various individuals. Some mails provide further background material for the story, while others disclose unexpected character traits, enabling players to dive deeper into the world of Crisis Core. There are also Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal, and Zack fan clubs. After satisfying the membership requirements, Zack will get the unique mail issued to club members.
Zack will also have access to powerful magic through equipping Materia. Using magic consumes MP and powerful spells will use an enormous amount, so be careful. Here are a couple of spells that can be used in the game:
- Energy
- Magic that fires a projectile which homes in on an enemy and has a piercing effect upon impact.
- Flare
- Magic that creates an explosion, inflicting massive damage to all enemies.
