Crossfire: Legion, the real-time strategy twist on the hit shooter Crossfire, has just announced that it will officially leave Early Access on December 8th, 2022. To celebrate, the devs are offering a free weekend between December 8th and December 11th, 2022. Publisher Prime Matter released a brand-new trailer teasing some of the content fans can expect:

Crossfire was always more of a hit outside of the US, so an RTS spin on the game was genuinely warranted. There has absolutely been an audience, but Crossfire: Legion has struggled with taking the series in a new direction since players really got involved back in May.

Fortunately, today’s trailer description emphasizes the ability to respond to fan feedback, aiming to improve the game with new features and updates that will better suit the RTS genre, which is a completely different arena than typical shooters.

Giving Crossfire an RTS makeover isn’t enough. The mechanics and gameplay are just too different, and most gripes that fans have mentioned include either some frustrating mechanics or technical issues.

Notably, many have been just fine with the environments, characters and storyline. This is a good sign for the future of the game. The devs have had half a year to adapt, and if they can simply work around the functional setbacks of Crossfire: Legion, then the content itself should be fine.

Today’s new trailer promises the final act of Crossfire: Legion’s campaign, as well as “refreshing the battlefield”, which likely refers to map additions. These features were previously teased on the Steam product page, so fans might expect some of the others too. This includes online community features, new units, and balancing.

Pricing for the game is expected to remain the same after launch, and with a free weekend, you can easily judge for yourself if the game is up to par for the RTS genre.
