Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most controversial launches in recent memory, but it was almost exclusively due to functional issues instead of content or gameplay itself. Since then, the devs have struggled with an uphill battle to renew interest from fans, especially after raising the expectations so high throughout their marketing campaign.

Now that the dust has settled, Cyberpunk 2077 has found its audience, and many of them are relieved that the title wasn’t abandoned outright. The devs pressed forward, and now a new expansion is going to deliver an “all new district” of Night City, according to the teaser’s description.

With only a very brief glimpse of a vehicle crash in-game, it’ll be interesting to see how the new area turns out. Hopefully, it’ll have just as much personality as the rest of the base game, without feeling redundant. But that can be a tough balancing act.

While fans are hoping for even more, that kind of funding and effort remains to be seen, and it will likely be determined by the success of Phantom Liberty.

But even more promising is the heated subject matter of the story, which has a lot of potential. The storytelling was a surprising high point of the game, with simple but effective worldbuilding. The update is also another opportunity to make some long-standing quality of life improvements.
