ArcRunner, an upcoming roguelite about clones stopping a rogue AI in the future, has just been announced with a new trailer. Although no release window has been revealed yet, it’s expected to be “coming soon” according to the Steam product page. The game’s Twitter account confirms that it will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

ArcRunner was developed by Trickjump Games Ltd, whose only other “game” thus far was Battle Royale Trainer, which released back in 2018. It wasn’t designed very well, and it was certainly limited in the kind of practice it actually offered fans of the genre. This resulted in very mixed reviews.

Additionally, Battle Royale Trainer has strangely decided to flaunt a character wearing the confederate flag as the face of the game. Divisive enough, gamers rarely want politics in their games period, regardless of the aisle.

With ArcRunner, the developers finally decided to pursue an actual game. The game is a mashup of many sci-fi elements, and it doesn’t seem intent on adding an interesting twist or flavor. The synth music in the trailer is nice, but a lot of the art design feels very familiar. Fans quickly noticed the similarities to Destiny, which is one of the most popular free-to-play titles on the market.

ArcRunner offers three different classes, a variety of weapons, and cooperative play. The co-op element is definitely a big draw, as players always enjoy finding clever team comps. The 3D approach is also fun for a roguelite, and less common among fellow indies. So far, the game has a somewhat generic feel, but judgment should be reserved until more gameplay is revealed.
