Beyond Sunset, an upcoming cyberpunk and first-person shooter from developer Metacorp and publisher Movie Games, has just released a new trailer for “Episode 2” gameplay. Beyond Sunset will have an episodic structure, where each episode plays differently.

Beyond Sunset has not confirmed an exact release date yet. According to publisher Movie Games’ official site, it will be available on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist the game and try a demo now. Steam is currently the only supported platform that has been announced. You can watch today’s Episode 2 trailer on the Movie Games YouTube channel:

According to a new post on the game’s official Steam page, the second episode “takes place in a technological megastructure”, and it was designed to “function as a living and breathing organism”.

That will probably call Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to mind, and the results are definitely more interesting than some of the traditional locations introduced in the Steam Next Fest teaser.

There were snippets of quite a few different Episodes, most of which had familiar structures and layouts. Episode 2 feels like a completely different world, and better sells the cyberpunk genre that Beyond Sunset is aiming for.

In Beyond Sunset, players lead the enhanced street samurai Lucy on a search for her memories, and in addition to the robots revealed today, you’ll be fighting yakuza and zombies.

So, there are some familiar tropes here, but there’s still plenty of room for lore, and the action certainly looks satisfying enough. The variety of the levels, dazzling visuals, and thoughtful nostalgia are sure to please fans of the genre. Notably, the game will also be moddable, which is going to ensure longevity and community.
