Red Hook Studios, the developer of Darkest Dungeon II, has introduced a significant hotfix, refining various aspects of the game, including an addition of numerous quirk interactions to Academic’s Studies. The update is one of many adjustments the developers have implemented in response to player feedback since the game’s 1.0 release.
One significant modification relates to the third Confession boss. Red Hook Studios indicated that they are looking into this area and have made a series of immediate adjustments, with plans to implement more changes to the boss fight in the future.
Among the alterations, several changes concern the Deathblow RES, a key game mechanic. The minimum Deathblow RES for heroes has been increased from 5% to 33%, while the same stat for monsters has been lowered from 5% to 0%. Moreover, monsters that initially had a 5% Deathblow RES, such as the Evangelist, will now carry a 0% Deathblow RES.
The hotfix has also adjusted some game elements relating to various characters. The Drummer’s Defensive Formation no longer provides a +50% Deathblow RES for one round, while the Knight will no longer use En Garde if on Death’s Door. Additionally, an issue causing the Bishop to occasionally pass his turn unnecessarily has been resolved.
Inns, essential locations for party recovery, will now only be generated once per expedition, enhancing the strategic elements of the game. The Hateful Pyre and The Stygian Blaze have also been modified to provide a bonus Deathblow RES to all monsters and bosses that have Death’s Door.
The Confession areas have also received some changes. For instance, region 2 Oblivion’s Rampart in both Confession 1 and 2 will now always culminate in a Deacon fight, with Confession 2’s region 3 always leading to a Cardinal battle.
Furthermore, the Pillager Mongrel will no longer gain Dodge when using Watchdog, instead receiving it on Riposte. The hotfix also raises the appearance rate of Hero Shrines and adds the ability for monsters to have IMMUNE resistance levels, a detail that will be shown in their mouse-over stats and pop text.
The update also includes an array of fixes and improvements, ranging from animation and VFX polish to fixes for softlock issues and UI edge cases. There are also localization changes, including the addition of a new Chinese font and disclaimers at the request of various language localization teams.
Notably, Red Hook Studios has acknowledged one known issue concerning non-localized new strings. The developers plan to rectify this as soon as possible.
