MINTROCKET’s first game, Dave the Diver, has demonstrated global traction since its release on June 28th. A mere 10 days post-launch, the sales of this ocean-themed game have topped 1 million copies.
Dave the Diver has received a considerable amount of attention from critics, earning an impressive 89 score on both Metacritic and OpenCritic platforms. Yet, the game’s acclaim is not limited to the critics. As evidenced by more than 23,000 player reviews, many users who’ve played the game rate it positively.
Featuring striking 2.5D pixel art, a host of peculiar characters, and unexpected cutscenes, Dave the Diver attracted a sizeable player base soon after its release. The game quickly climbed the ranks, securing the #2 Global Top Sellers position on Steam within the first 24 hours. Since its launch, Dave the Diver has seen a peak concurrent player count exceeding 78,000, has earned Metacritic’s #5 Best PC Game of 2023 title, and secured a spot in OpenCritic’s 2023 Hall of Fame.
Game Director Jaeho Hwang expressed gratitude towards the active gaming community, crediting them for their significant feedback that has led to numerous system improvements and bug fixes. Hwang thanked the game’s players for their part in Dave the Diver’s journey.
The game’s blend of adventure, role-playing, and management genres offers players a distinctive gameplay experience. Users explore the mysteries of the Blue Hole during the day and manage a successful sushi restaurant by night, creating an engaging gameplay loop.
Adding an element of unpredictability, the game features casual combat and gathering gameplay with rogue-like elements. Players can dive into the constantly changing Blue Hole, catch fish and various creatures with a harpoon and other tools, and upgrade equipment using collected resources and sushi restaurant profits.
The game’s charming, eccentric characters and a light-hearted narrative full of in-jokes and spoofs add to its appeal. Its 2D/3D art blend delivers an appealing representation of the breathtaking underwater scenery of a real marine environment – the Blue Hole – and its more than 200 types of sea creatures.
The main gameplay loop is supplemented by a variety of additional content. Minigames, side quests, and multiple storylines offer players hours of diverse gameplay and entertainment.
MINTROCKET has been actively addressing player feedback post-launch through a series of hotfixes, striving to optimize the gaming experience. Additionally, those looking forward to playing Dave the Diver on a portable platform can anticipate the game’s release on Nintendo Switch later this year.
