Deck13, currently best known for Atlas Fallen, has posted a new tweet announcing plans to publish Crystals of Irm, an indie RPG dungeon crawler from David Schütze. The publishing deal was signed via Deck13 Spotlight, which is also working on Drova – Forsaken Kin, Elements Destiny, and more.

Crystals of Irm has not confirmed a release date yet. It will be available on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist the game and try a playable demo now. Deck13’s YouTube channel also released a gameplay overview trailer, and a reply from Deck13 adds that Crystals of Irm is also expected to launch on consoles at some point:

Crystals of Irm features a lot of conventional RPG mechanics and ideas. Players will lead heroes out to retrieve magical crystals and return them to their rightful place. However, the combat system and sheer atmosphere should definitely intrigue fans of the genre.

The stylish visuals include vintage top-down and first-person effects that will really catch your eye. The top-down art design captures a very particular era of gaming, when finer details were still in-progress. The first-person gameplay is a different kind of retro, and adds some modern touches in various animations, such as the particles and dialogue.

The movement-based grid battles are definitely the most striking mechanic. Players must use abilities and spells to move around, and the grid feels more like a charming addition than a disparate distraction. Crystals of Irm seems like an oddly successful combination of multiple games.

It’s a shame that today’s overview trailer doesn’t seem to differ from the Steam page release trailer, which the developer revealed several months ago. However, Deck13’s support via Spotlight should definitely invite a wider audience.
