In a recent update, Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2, has officially announced the delay of the highly anticipated expansion “The Final Shape.” The expansion was originally scheduled to be released on February 27, 2024, but it has now been pushed back to June 4, 2024.

In a blog post addressing the delay, the Destiny 2 Dev Team explained that they need more time to ensure that the expansion meets their “high standards.”

“The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come. “

The blog post also outlined the changes to the Destiny 2 release calendar as a result of the delay. Season of the Wish, which is set to begin on November 28, 2023, will now extend until the launch of The Final Shape in June. However, there will be new content available for all players throughout this extended period, including new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards, and a refreshed Guardian Games event.

The team also announced a two-month content update called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will be available to all players beginning in April. This update will serve as a prelude to The Final Shape and will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler.

Bungie has also released an FAQ to address any questions players may have about the delay. I’ll list some answers here. The release of The Final Shape has been delayed, players who have pre-ordered the expansion can rest assured that their pre-orders will remain valid and they will still receive their instant-unlock pre-order bonus items.

Additionally, those who have purchased the Collector’s Edition will still receive their Destiny Tower Architectural Replica in March, giving them the opportunity to explore its secrets before the expansion’s launch.

Furthermore, the release date for Episode: Echoes has been shifted to June, shortly after the launch of The Final Shape. Importantly, the amount of content included in the Annual Pass will not be affected by the delay, ensuring that players will still have access to a wealth of content when The Final Shape finally arrives.
