Bungie has officially revealed an all-new ViDoc today, elaborating on what fans can expect to see in Lightfall. This included key details about the antagonist and Neomuna, as well as some gameplay and explanations for upcoming mechanics like the highly anticipated Strand.
Destiny 2: Lightfall launches on February 28th, 2023. You can watch today’s full ViDoc on Destiny 2’s official YouTube channel here:
Today’s ViDoc ultimately played like more of a recap of all the upcoming features, which is a bit disappointing, though some smaller details did get peppered in. Possibly the most important highlight turned out to be Bungie’s plans and attitude regarding the future of the series.
After all, Lightfall finally pulls all stops to pave the way for the end of the Light and Darkness saga, and Destiny 2 launched as far back as 2017. Fans have been curious about the future, and it seems the devs feel confident about continuing to build. In today’s ViDoc, they hint that they might cast aside the central Traveler conflict, with language that really reinforces how “new” everything will be.
Neomuna and Strand are both radically different for the franchise, so that’s proof enough that the devs can bring creative ways to reinvent Destiny’s gameplay and environments. The ViDoc includes a lot of behind-the-scenes information, mainly on the purpose behind each change.
Strand is certainly innovative, both conceptually and mechanically, and it opens the door to more cosmic and grand ideas in the Destiny universe.
Destiny 2: Lightfall has a lot resting on its shoulders. It needs to shape up a satisfying finale for longtime fans, which would also lead into a new beginning and entry point for the uninitiated. The conclusion of the Light and Dark saga will do wonders for new players, who haven’t been on the complete journey, which is filled with a staggering volume of lore.
