Ahead of releasing on PlayStation Plus, Destruction AllStars surprised fans today with a sudden effort to revive interest and push forward with new content and updates. Three new events are planned through September this year.
Here’s the official tweet from PlayStation, announcing that players can expect the changes next week, tying in with Europe’s PS Plus service launch:
Destruction AllStars has a great premise and some fun gameplay, but the devs didn’t really support it the way fans expected. As a result, the game stumbled, and has continued to struggle with population.
In fact, their lengthy blog practically acknowledges this. They announced a “founders pack” reward for those who actually played the game before the upcoming PS Plus release. The language backs this up too, often referring to “first time” players and others “coming back after some time away”.
They even added a trailer that explains the basics of the game, which you can review here:
Fortunately, the game does have potential, and with the new roadmap it looks like Destruction AllStars could finally tap into that. Previous updates just haven’t been enough to renew interest, but PS Plus subscribers will definitely have a good incentive to check it out.
New content breakdown
As seen in today’s promo, the first event will be “Rise”, which brings the new “Jumpshot” game mode with four teams of three trying to collect the most points.
One teammate carries gear on foot while collecting and banking points, while the others drive around and attack enemies to earn more collecting time. Roles are changed after scoring or lost gear.
Aside from Jumpshot, players can also expect to see a reworked ranked system for Blitz, which is designed to help improve matchmaking. It will also offer new exclusive cosmetics.
