Payday 3, the much-awaited sequel to the popular co-op shooter franchise, has stirred up criticism as it has been revealed that the game will require a constant internet connection. The news emerged during a livestream featuring Almir Listo, Global Brand Director at Starbreeze Studios.

Recently, Twitter user DannyOnPC shared a clip from Listo’s stream where a viewer posed a question about whether Payday 3 would offer an offline mode for solo play. Listo swiftly responded to the question, stating, “Uh no. You will be able to play by yourself. But I do believe you need to have a connection in order to play.” This revelation has sparked a wave of mixed reactions from fans, with the majority expressing their disappointment and lamenting the seemingly early demise of the game’s potential.

Unfortunately, this is not the only instance where Payday 3 has encountered discontent among fans. Previously, Starbreeze disclosed that the game would incorporate microtransactions, a decision that invited a significant backlash. However, in a bid to appease the concerns of the community, the developer clarified in a Steam blog post that these microtransactions would strictly be limited to the purchase of cosmetic items and would have no impact on gameplay.

As Payday 3 faces mounting criticism ahead of its release, doubts surrounding its launch success have begun to emerge. The constant internet connection requirement and the inclusion of microtransactions have left fans uncertain about the direction in which the highly anticipated sequel is headed, and whether it will live up to their expectations. Nonetheless, Payday 3‘s success can only be determined once the game is made available.

Payday 3 is scheduled to launch on September 21, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The game is now available for wishlist and pre-order, with the Standard Edition priced at $39.99, on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store.
