Sludge Life 2, a surprise sequel to the open world indie hit, has just been announced from the same publisher Devolver Digital. They will also reteam with returning developers Terri Vellmann and Doseone.
Sludge Life 2 is expected to launch this year on PC, though a closer release window wasn’t confirmed. You can watch the new trailer for Sludge Life 2 on the Devolver Digital YouTube channel here:
So, Sludge Life is one of the most remarkable, intentionally bizarre and upsetting indies. It is profoundly juvenile, but in a genuinely funny and relentlessly imaginative way. It reinforces more of that oddball comedy that publisher Devolver Digital has become renowned for supporting.
Today’s trailer for Sludge Life 2 hints that the sequel will continue to deliver the goods. It’s full of surprising imagery, a vaguely disturbing soundtrack, and probably just as much plot. The point of these games is about nailing the atmosphere, and with the same developers on hand, the sequel was bound to succeed in that regard.
So, chances are that Sludge Life 2 will please fans of the first game and refuse to acknowledge any uncertain newcomers. If you’re already a skeptic, there’s little chance of being won over. But this is definitely going to be worth a laugh for returning guests to this chaotic world.
The website for the game itself is amusing, with classic pop-ups and retro desktop icons. However, it’s the official Steam page that has all the details.
While tagging is naturally making a comeback, the sequel promises new items, new music, and “three times more NPCs” to discover. Tripling the NPC population was a smart move, since strange interactions are the fundamental joy of Sludge Life.
