Disney Speedstorm, the new Disney kart racing game from developer and publisher Gameloft, is going to add some big adjustments for Ranked Multiplayer, following feedback from the community. While an exact release time wasn’t confirmed, the update is expected to roll out “later this week” according to the full patch notes in today’s official blog post.
The new balancing changes will allow players to earn more score points when they place well, and lose fewer points if they place poorly. Further, the Bronze, Silver and Gold leagues won’t dock any points at all. Instead, players will only begin to lose points once they reach Platinum league.

Following the update, players who commit to the grind can all eventually reach Platinum. It does seem as if the devs are still rewarding players who win consistently, but the lower leagues are now essentially rendered a little pointless. They will potentially become a simple wall for patience rather than skill.
While this will probably feel more accessible for younger players, the change does sort of undermine the entire point of a Ranked experience, which is meant to encourage more competitive gameplay.
Overall, many fans are still pleased with the leniency of the upcoming update, though. Aside from nerfing the lower leagues, the new scoring system could mend some of the gaps between placement, so that narrow losses aren’t such a setback. There are higher rewards and softer punishments, if any.
Disney Speedstorm is still struggling to work itself out, while the likes of LEGO 2K Drive, which we recently reviewed, manage to push the genre forward altogether. But these community updates and small adjustments show dedicated support, which is certain to get Disney Speedstorm on course.
