Divine Knockout, the 3D fighting platformer from developer Red Beard Games, has just released a new cinematic teaser for the upcoming god Loki, whose daggers and abilities have been teased throughout the month. Here’s the full teaser from Divine Knockout’s official YouTube channel:
A release date was not confirmed for Loki, but a follow-up tweet from the game’s Twitter feed added that fans should tune into the official Twitch channel for an Update Show on March 2nd, 2023. The show is likely to include the release date, as well as a gameplay trailer for the anticipated character:
Loki was an inevitable addition to the game, given that they’ve become a fan favorite character in the MCU. However, with that reputation comes high expectations and the need for Divine Knockout to distinguish their interpretation well.
Today’s teaser includes a more ruthless and cackling Loki, which is a nice approach. It makes them less of a protagonist, and it also invites their abilities to feel a little more ferocious. Loki’s decoys were an obligatory ability, given his reputation as a trickster. But the poison attacks are quite interesting, and it’ll be interesting to see how they play.
Divine Knockout translated the mythology of Sun Wukong, who released last month, more directly. However, Loki still looks promising, and certainly a lot less broken than some more recent additions. There are more than a few gods that could use some balancing changes.
Loki’s cinematic also shows off a neat art design, which packs in a lot of cultural influence without becoming too messy. It’s more subdued than expected, with darker tones and colors. There are some terrific cosmetic opportunities with this design, especially with those signature horns.
