Divine Knockout, the third-person platformer and fighting game from Red Beard Games, has just shown off a first look at Zeus and his entire kit. It’s been revealed in a new livestream on the game’s official Twitch channel, where you might still be able to tune in. Divine Knockout just released last week on December 6th, 2022, for PC and both generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

It’s rather early on for Divine Knockout to be teasing new characters already, but Zeus does feel very much like obligatory addition, given the entire theme and setting of the game. However, Zeus also has a historical reputation as an unusually powerful god, and that is definitely translated into the game.

Fans quickly noted that Zeus seemed pretty overpowered. Zeus’ abilities include throwing a lightning bolt with knockback, firing three aerial bolts down a path, and his ultimate can fire five bolts that can stack charges for a final explosion if they hit.

There are ways to disrupt Zeus’ kit, or even dodge. Ranged characters are supposed to be a natural foil. Preparing a lightning bolt also reduces Zeus’ flight, preventing any obvious spamming.

However, it seems likely that Zeus is going to have serious balancing issues and could become very problematic. Although Divine Knockout encourages casual gameplay, competitive players will be able to drastically skew the game with so many area-of-effect attacks.

All the same, Zeus’ abilities have great designs and animations. The ult in particular has a very amusing and cocky attitude, and snapping his finger at the end could possibly be a little wink to the MCU.

Hopefully, Divine Knockout paces itself and works on balancing out the characters that are already available before bloating their roster. For now, fans have responded well to all of the ways Red Beard Games has elaborated on their Smite experience.
