Spectrolite, a futuristic first-person platformer from developers Noel Hetei and Andor Valentiny, is finally going to be ported for all console platforms. A release window has not been confirmed, but the port is “coming soon” according to a new tweet from frequent port publisher Dolores Entertainment. Here’s the big announcement, which was accompanied by a gameplay trailer:
Spectrolite first launched in late 2021, and it has mostly been overlooked since. The blend of sci-fi and parkour, as well as its satisfying soundtrack, will probably bring Mirror’s Edge to mind.
Although its level design probably isn’t quite as creative, it does have a terrific art style. There’s a unique kind of immersion in Spectrolite that captures the same charm and speed of something like the movie Tron.
The music plays a very large role in that success, too. Its vibrant synth soundtrack, mixed with intriguing sound effects for just about everything, really help define the mood of Spectrolite’s world and distinguish it from similar titles.
Spectrolite can sometimes be a punishing game when it comes to learning and mastering the courses. Since accurate movement is the point of the game, the smoothness of the mechanics has been pretty divisive.
That could affect how the game plays on console. If the precision of PC controls isn’t cutting it, then challenges of Spectrolite’s degree could easily become overwhelming with a controller. Ideally, the port will take an opportunity to clean things up a little bit and ensure they translate properly.
However, Spectrolite is also a brief and swift game. Its gameplay tone should mesh well with mobile gaming on the Nintendo Switch, despite its difficulty. Now that it’s coming to major consoles, it’ll be fun to see how the indie devs elaborate next.
