The long-rumored collaboration between the popular video game Fortnite and the iconic TV series Doctor Who series showrunner Russell T Davies has officially been denied. Initially leaked before the show’s return last year, the crossover event allegedly never existed in the first place.
The proposed crossover was rumored to be a two-week event that would have allowed players to assume the roles of the 14th Doctor (David Tennant) and the 15th Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) in the game. Data miners reportedly found references to Beep the Meep and The TARDIS in the game’s files.
However, in response to inquiries about the rumored Fortnite Doctor Who event, Russell T Davies confirmed no plans for an official Doctor Who crossover. He mentioned that while developers at Epic Games may have been working on a pitch internally, the BBC and production company Bad Wolf Studios hadn’t authorized any such project. Davies stated, “There isn’t one! It’s a complete myth, I’m afraid.”
Following this clarification, many fans expressed disappointment and disbelief. Some fans pointed out that evidence of the event had been uncovered by data miners, expressing hope for future collaboration. Others questioned the showrunner’s stance, asserting that the event was in the game files and accusing him of fabricating the denial.
Despite the potential work on the collaboration at some point, it seems unsurprising that the event isn’t going ahead, given the discomfort expressed by fans of the series at the thought of The Doctor engaging in combat with weaponry. While the Doctor has a complex history, the portrayal of the character engaging in battle with various forms of weaponry did not align with the expectations of a significant portion of the fanbase.
As this has been confirmed as not happening, any hopes for the highly anticipated crossover between Fortnite and Doctor Who have been extinguished. This pretty much ends any speculation and rumors about the crossover.
