Dragon Age has been a successful franchise since it first launched over a decade ago, and developer BioWare continues to push forward. The devs recently announced that a new sequel, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, reached the Alpha milestone last October. They are currently in testing now, and plan to expand some overlooked areas of the series’ dense mythology.

Netflix has seen tremendous success with adapting video games, which is a surprise, since video games are usually notorious for their terrible movie adaptations. However, Arcane was an undeniable smash hit, based on the uncontested champion of the MOBA genre, League of Legends.

Whenever the creative side of things is willing to invest in the source material’s mythology in a smart way, which appeals to the fans more than mainstream audiences, something really clicks. In this way, the uninitiated will often naturally become fans of the IP anyway. That could easily build an entirely new audience, primed for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Today’s new trailer for Dragon Age: Absolution promises that the upcoming series definitely has that potential. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the show proudly hints at bold, mature themes with dialogue to match.

The tone is likely spot on because the show was created alongside members of BioWare’s creative team, as confirmed in the description for the new trailer. This includes both creative directors and writers.
