Fans of the upcoming Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero were recently met with a surprise when online postings revealed the game will seemingly lack local multiplayer. Images showcasing the game’s PlayStation and Steam pages don’t show this feature, raising concerns.

A tweet showed that the game may not have local multiplayer. Local multiplayer has traditionally been a staple of fighting games, fostering friendly competition and couch co-op experiences that have become synonymous with the genre. Its potential absence in Sparking! Zero is a big deal, raising questions about the developers’ intentions and the impact it might have on gameplay.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Budokai Tenkaichi series, bringing the fast-paced, 3D arena-brawling gameplay to a new generation. Players can expect to engage in exhilarating battles, unleashing iconic attacks and special powers as they relive epic moments from the Dragon Ball universe. Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero marks the first entry in the series since Budokai Tenkaichi 3 in 2007.

Sparking! Zero promises to be a visually stunning and action-packed revival of the beloved Budokai Tenkaichi series. However, the lack of local multiplayer overshadows this otherwise promising picture. While online play is fun and great to have, it can’t replace local multiplayer. Local multiplayer has long been a cornerstone of fighting games, and it’s hard to find any that don’t support it.

There is no official confirmation or denial of local multiplayer for the game, but we’re hoping that this is just a mistake that will be fixed. Bandai Namco should address this issue as soon as they can if it is a mistake because this could damage the series’ reputation. Not adding a feature like this feels like they left out a crucial part of the game.
