Shiro Games and Funcom have announced that the 4X real-time strategy game based on Frank Herbert’s Dune universe, Dune: Spice Wars, is set to leave the early access phase on September 14th. Dune: Spice Wars entered the early access phase back in April 2022, allowing developers to gather invaluable feedback while the game is in active development.
Dune: Spice Wars immerses players in the unique Dune universe, one of the most influential sci-fi settings ever created. In this game, players will lead their faction and battle for control and dominance over the harsh desert planet of Arrakis, home to the universe’s most valuable resource, called Spice.
This 4X real-time strategy game challenges players to balance open warfare, subterfuge, political influence, and economic supremacy. Players may employ secretive agents to sabotage the plans of their opponents and vote on political resolutions in the Landsraad to further their strategy. Players may also dominate their opponents by overwhelming them with an all-out assault.
Dune: Spice Wars features a Conquest mode, which acts as a campaign where players take control of one of the major houses and fight through a number of unique scenarios and situations. In this mode, players may personalize their starting house with a variety of perks and upgrades to tackle the many challenging objectives, ensuring a unique experience for each playthrough.
Upon the official release of Dune: Spice Wars, there will be six factions available to play, including House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino, The Fremen, The Smugglers, as well as House Ecaz, the new addition for version 1.0.
While Dune: Spice Wars is currently exclusive to PC, Shiro Games and Funcom have expressed interest in the possibility of bringing the game to other platforms. DLCs are also being considered, although the developers have clarified that their focus will be turned to finishing the free post-launch updates following the full version’s release.
For those eager to dive into Dune: Spice Wars ahead of the official release, early access to the game is still available on Steam.
