The Gecko Gods

Puzzle platformer The Gecko Gods has revealed that it will also launch on Nintendo Switch, and although it was originally expected this year, it’s now slated to release sometime in 2023. It’ll also be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

The Gecko Gods may have some rough graphics here and there, but it also boasts a picturesque art design that resembles hand-drawn work. There’s a retro charm to today’s teaser that harkens back to early PS1 games like Spyro. Developer Louis Waloschek states on the Steam product page that players will be able to climb anything. That’s a surprising level of freedom, typically found in Assassin’s Creed.

The Captain

The Captain, an indie sci-fi adventure from Sysiac Games, released last year to high praise. The pixel art is unusually detailed, and the gameplay successfully blends a variety of genres that don’t usually agree, including point-and-click mechanics. As a result, the lot of them are more accessible. The Captain is available today on the Nintendo Switch and PC.

Risk of Rain Returns

It’s hard to believe that Risk of Rain launched as far back as 2013. Finally, a remaster has been announced for PC and Nintendo Switch, due in 2023.

A concrete release window wasn’t confirmed, but today’s teaser adds that Risk of Rain will be “expanded” for the remaster, which could potentially include a new story and more. Risk of Rain thrived as a roguelike co-op game with a boisterous nature, and its sequel built on that in very satisfying ways. It’ll be a treat to see how the devs revisit their iconic original.

THE PUNCHUIN

THE PUNCHUIN is available now from publisher Shin’en Multimedia. This indie basks in its kitchen sink mechanics and playful attitude. Players set out on a treasure hunt, and its art design is fortuitously festive. Surprisingly, the game also supports two players on a single system. THE PUNCHUIN offers an odd array of mechanics, but that does match its sense of humor.
