Evil Dead: The Game, an asymmetrical horror game based on Sam Raimi’s hit franchise, has released a new gameplay trailer online featuring the new Splatter Royale update. The new battle royale mode was announced just days ago, now some gameplay has been revealed as it rolls out today. This includes footage of how the new weapons will look and feel, too. So, here’s the full trailer from PlayStation:

It’s a delight to see developer Saber Interactive really invest in Evil Dead: The Game. The IP always felt like it deserved more than an asymmetrical horror spin, given how wildly the franchise has elaborated. It eventually introduced time travel and evil skeletons, incorporating more and more fantasy, so it should be just as natural for the games to expand too.

Splatter Royale should be pretty interesting, aiming to generate as much blood as possible, as Evil Dead ought to do. Today’s trailer shows off how the grenade launcher will work, and since it coincides with the new battle royale mode, it originally seemed like an OP form of crowd control. However, the footage doesn’t look too bad, and there are plenty of other balancing issues that need fixing anyway.

Hopefully, the new trailer and Splatter Royale mode invite more players to the game, which deserves more love. There are countless battle royale games, but Evil Dead: The Game is probably the most unexpected, since it’s already a niche (though cult classic) IP.

The servers will definitely be tested, adding so many players to each game. But if the devs can get today’s launch right, it’ll open a portal to all kinds of new genres inspired by the Evil Dead franchise. It’s nice to see a PlayStation trailer spread the word, since casual gamers and newcomers probably missed the announcements on Evil Dead’s socials.
