Evil Empire, the development studio behind the critically acclaimed game Dead Cells, has announced its departure from ongoing work related to the popular title. After nearly five years of dedicated service, which accounts for four downloadable content (DLC) packs, 18 comprehensive updates, and a mobile release in collaboration with Playdigious, the studio has shifted its focus towards new ventures.
The team at Evil Empire tweeted about their pride and appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to Dead Cells, citing their gratitude to Motion Twin for entrusting them with the game. In their farewell statement, the studio said they had a deep attachment to the game’s community. They acknowledged the joy they received from crafting new content in collaboration with the players and observing their reactions.
While bidding farewell to the Dead Cells project, Evil Empire offered an optimistic outlook by revealing that the disbanded team would redirect their creative energy towards undisclosed secret projects. They hinted at an imminent reveal of these new endeavors, showcasing eagerness to present the innovative concepts incubating within their studio.
“We will really miss working on Dead Cells and in particular we will miss the amazing community. Making new content with you and seeing your reactions to some of our wilder additions has been a blast, even if we weren’t always perfect. On that note, we’re sorry for any broken controllers caused by the Derelict Distillery…”
Evil Dead Statement
Evil Empire extended their well-wishes to Motion Twin and said they are waiting for the success of the studio’s forthcoming game, Windblown. It sounds like Evil Empire is going to bring their own games to players soon, but we’ll have to wait and see what they’re going to bring.
