Mateusz Kanik, the game director of the acclaimed ‘Cyberpunk 2077‘ and co-director of ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘, has declared the inception of ‘Blank.’, a fresh video game development studio based in Warsaw, Poland. Accompanying him in this venture are executive producers from ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’, Jedrzej Mroz and Marcin Jefimow. The fledgling studio’s debut project is a character-centric game set in an apocalyptic world, promising a couple of unique twists.

The founding members of Blank. comprise veterans from the gaming industry, including Mateusz Kanik as Co-Founder and Game Director, Jedrzej Mroz as Co-Founder and Executive Producer, and Marcin Jefimow, who also brings experience from 11 Bit Studios, as Co-Founder and Executive Producer. Joining them are Mikolaj Marchewka as Managing Director, Michal Dobrowolski as Design Director, Artur Ganszyniec as Narrative Director, and Grzegorz Przybys as Art Director.

Blank.’s vision centers on the development of intricately crafted games that offer unique experiences to players, veering more towards uncharted territories than tried-and-true formulas. While the studio currently consists of 10 members, there are plans to increase this number to 60 to support the development of their first project, and the team is actively recruiting to fill various roles.

The founders of Blank. expressed their excitement about the launch of the new studio and the distinct philosophy they are adopting in game development. Kanik expressed his intent to create “bold, impactful projects” that reflect their unique creativity and values, favoring a collaborative approach over individual dictatorships. He also spoke against the industry’s crunch culture, advocating for work-life balance, and emphasized their commitment to creating highly polished, emotionally engaging games with a focus on storytelling and craftsmanship.

Jefimow echoed these sentiments, explaining their approach to game development is informed by their own experiences and stories. He described Blank. as a space that celebrates their collective histories while also being open to new inspirations and collaborative creativity. Mroz emphasized the importance of balancing inspiring ideas with a well-defined scope, a capable team, and a realistic budget, pledging their commitment to quality craftsmanship and running the studio sustainably.

According to Blank., their mission is to dare to be different and champion quality in gaming, exploring bold, smart, and inspiring ideas, prioritizing the players’ experience, and striving to leave a lasting legacy in the world of electronic entertainment. As they prepare to bring their debut project to life, it seems clear that Blank. aims to make a significant and lasting impact on the gaming industry.
