Factorio, a game that challenges players to design, build, and manage automated factories within an unending 2D landscape, has released a new update. This latest patch brings controller support into play, marking a significant addition to the game’s interface.

One of the highlights of the update is the introduction of controller or gamepad support, a feature that can be activated by changing the input method in Settings->Controls. This addition gives players another input option, expanding the flexibility of the game’s controls.

Complementing the controller support, the update also introduces contextual hotkey hints. These hints can be enabled in the Settings->Interface and are particularly useful when playing with a controller. They provide players with in-context hints for various controller actions, assisting in making gameplay more intuitive.

In addition to these features, the patch also offers various minor enhancements and adjustments. For instance, players can now blueprint entities belonging to friendly forces, which introduces another layer of strategy to the game. Also, when players connect wires to entities with multiple sides, such as a combinator or power switch, the hovered side is highlighted, providing better visual feedback.

The patch makes a change in how infinite values are written in the –dump-data. It now writes these values as the string “inf” and “-inf”. The update also makes modifications to the mods install menu, where the “Version” column has been replaced with “Last highlighted.”

The patch introduces several bug fixes as well, aiming to improve the overall gaming experience. Some of these fixes include correcting volume changes with zoom level for wind sound, fixing productivity values showing incorrectly in some instances, and repairing texture compression artifacts on Apple Silicon Macs. Furthermore, a crash associated with composite commands with a dead unit group has been rectified.

Other modifications introduced in this update include the disabling of the Command+W keyboard shortcut for closing the game window on Macs. However, players can still quit the application using Command+Q. Other refinements involve the sounds fading in and out on game resume and pause, and the ability to allow “Pick up items” and “Drop items” actions to be fired simultaneously as other actions in keyboard and mouse mode.

The latest update also makes an advancement to the SDL version, updating it to 2.26.5. Furthermore, it fixes issues related to copying or pasting large blueprint strings on Linux and a desync issue between ARM and x86 platforms when the pathfinder is overloaded.
