The DOOM series started as the beginning for many gamers, with players across the world eagerly grabbing their controllers to decimate demons. Now, 30 years after the first title was released, a fan-made project and sequel called Voxel Doom II has announced that it will be released on Aug. 1, 2023.
The trailer showcases classic DOOM gameplay featuring the demons and some new and very unique enemy types. The Voxel mods for the DOOM games replace all monsters, weapons, and other items in the game, allowing for a completely custom experience using the same engine. Voxel Doom II is made by Cheelo, with the help of Nash Muhandes and Agustin Alvarez, on GZDOOM.
There have been a lot of smaller-scale mods in the DOOM games that have provided unique experiences, but many regard the first Voxel DOOM game to be one of the more comprehensive mods to come out of the series so far. The mod for DOOM II looks to be just as impressive, with a number of unique models and gameplay moments being shown in the trailer.
The pixel-arcade DOOM titles hold a very special place in gamers’ hearts since their release, inspiring a variety of infamous memes and a reboot series that has received numerous rewards. Voxel Doom II is just the latest show of appreciation from the community towards the DOOM series.
