Chrono Odyssey, an upcoming open world and fantasy MMORPG from South Korean studio NPIXEL has just released an official gameplay reveal trailer. The footage reveals a variety of enemies, magical abilities, hack and slash combat, epic environments and more.
Chrono Odyssey doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it will be available on PC and next-gen PlayStation or Xbox consoles. You can watch the full gameplay reveal on the official PlayStation YouTube channel here:
Aside from a few cinematics, there’s a surprising volume of gameplay revealed today, and it escalates very well. The most appealing thing about an MMORPG is how distinguishable its world is, if it’s truly dense enough to make countless hours of exploration worthwhile.
Although some of the fantasy elements in today’s trailer look a little traditional, there’s a lot to love here. The emphasis on spacetime, which directly ties into the title, should provide a neat approach for strategic combat. There are also some little twists on the more familiar magical abilities.
Better yet, a wide range of roles were revealed, all of which feel distinct enough for players to battle their own way. For example, the opportunity to indulge a little gunplay was definitely unexpected.
The visuals are nothing short of spectacular and will probably create the most intrigue for Chrono Odyssey. Everything from the largest boss to the smallest costume looks highly detailed. The creatures were an absolute highlight in today’s trailer, with some menacing features and interesting behavior.
The humanoid villains also have a decent aura of mystery, which appears to be important to the devs, given the absence of any dialogue in today’s trailer. There’s still a lot to consider though, and Chrono Odyssey already looks very promising for fans of the genre.
