The Bloodline, an indie action and fantasy RPG from developer Shieldbearer Studios and publisher HOOK, will officially launch into Early Access on October 5th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist now.
According to The Bloodline’s official Steam page, Early Access will allow players to full explore the kingdom. It will also include two guilds to join, and a large skill tree, which will be expanded over time. The full version that releases later on will add new settings, moddability, different outcomes and more.
You can watch today’s release date announcement trailer, which shows off a variety of enemies and environments, on HOOK’s YouTube channel:
The Bloodline is one of many open-world fantasy RPGs that hope to give the players as much freedom as possible. It incorporates just about every combat, crafting, and exploration feature imaginable. The Steam page even mentions that players will have “over 500 skills to unlock and hundreds of different weapons and equipment”.
It is a very ambitious indie, and the poly art design gives it a little flavor to help distinguish it in a busy genre. Today’s trailer also showcases some inventive features that make the most of the genre, such as transforming into a phoenix, or chasing down a flying ghost ship.
The Bloodline’s latest trailer may get bloody here and there, but it ultimately has a spirit of fun. Its cartoonish sense of humor, found in its physics and creature designs, might also help interest players.
The Steam page also teases that players can use foresight to see events in the near future, an ability earned by the titular bloodline. There will be quests to follow, so hopefully, The Bloodline can elaborate on its lore in a meaningful way that feels less generic.
