No Place Like Home, a casual indie sim set on post-apocalyptic Earth from developer Chicken Launcher and publisher Awaken Realms, will officially arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on July 28th, 2023. The port will be handled by publisher Merge Games.
No Place Like Home first launched in March 2022, and is available now on PC and the Nintendo Switch. You can watch today’s new console port trailer on the Merge Games YouTube channel:
No Place Like Home has a very clever premise, which establishes just enough fresh context for the tired genre to justify a lot of familiar farming mechanics. The environmental themes feel totally natural, and actually encourage you to discover.
Despite the apocalyptic setting, everything is relatively bright, reinforcing the game’s sense of optimism. The general gameplay loop smartly harnesses the same satisfaction of other restoration games such as PowerWash Simulator, which recently announced a crossover with SpongeBob SquarePants.
There’s a distinct WALL-E style theme in No Place Like Home, with the broader sense that you’re valuing and rescuing Earth as you clean. It makes the process more rewarding and adds significance to your choices, but the story remains playful and personal.
The farming aspect is also surprisingly rich, with lots of flexibility. Rest assured that this is still a very cozy game, and the Steam page will remind you that you can put adorable hats on your animals.
No Place Like Home is very colorful, with sweeping landscapes and some very cute animals. It will absolutely benefit from a next-gen release, although it was more of a perfect match for the mobility of the Nintendo Switch. At the very least, this should renew interest in the game, which has earned very high reviews since launch.
