Koei Tecmo‘s Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has provided a preview of its thrilling storyline, along with a closer look at some of the game’s mechanics, including Photo Mode.
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is an upcoming digital remaster of the same-titled 2008 survival horror video game. It is set to be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on March 9th, 2023. Recently, Koei Tecmo uploaded a new video, presenting the story as well as details on the Photo Mode feature. The story trailer of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse focused on the protagonist, Ruka Minazuki, one of a group of girls who were held captive on the fictional isolated Rogetsu island in Japan 10 years ago for unknown reasons. The teaser also featured Ruka’s mother and the detective, Choshiro, who rescued the girls.
The latest trailer also showed off the Camera Obscura or Photo Mode gameplay feature. As with previous entries in the series, the gameplay of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse revolves around the main character exploring areas and confronting hostile ghosts using the Photo Mode, which is capable of recording unfathomable events, to repel invading spirits. The trailer also provided a first glimpse of the alternative costumes available to each character, including the original lineup of outfits, along with slightly altered versions, as well as all-new costumes to help experience the investigation in a variety of fashions.
Koei Tecmo also announced that those who purchase the digital copy of the game by March 22nd, 2023, will be able to download the early purchase bonus: Ruka Exclusive Costume “Marie Rose Outfit” from the Dead or Alive series. Meanwhile, fans who pre-order the game on launch day will also receive a variety of costumes, which are as follows:
- Ruka Limited Edition Costume “Fox Mask” (white/red)
- Misaki Limited Edition Costume “Fox Mask” (black/scarlet)
- Choshiro Limited Edition Costume “Fox Mask” (black/blue)
- Ruka Misaki and Choshiro Limited Edition Costume “Spirit Stone Flashlight Hat”
There will be also a special save bonus costume offered for fans who have already played Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. Play Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse on the same device on which Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water data has been saved to earn the “Camera Obscura Hat” Save Data Bonus.
