Bloody Hell Hotel and Buddy Simulator 1984 publisher Feardemic has just revealed that Fear Fest 2023 is slated for September 6th and 7th, 2023. The two-part event will be an IGN exclusive this year, featured on their official YouTube and Twitch channels.

This event will showcase a variety of upcoming horror games, including titles that are expected this year and in 2024. There will also be an all-new Horror Game Awards to celebrate the genre’s best games of the past year, and the winner is taking home a unique Golden Bat trophy.

The “Black Summer” showcase event is set for September 6th, while the Horror Game Awards are scheduled for the 7th. You can watch the full Fear Fest 2023 reveal trailer on the Feardemic YouTube channel:

It’s a little surprising how large a role IGN will be playing, but it’s certain to invite a lot more casual viewers than a single publisher could. This is a major win for the genre, which can often be underappreciated in all entertainment mediums.

There’s certainly a lot of discourse about jump scares and the like, but even those can be fun in moderation. There are countless horror games that deserve to be mentioned, and it is certainly much appreciated that today’s trailer mentioned indie games.

So, fans shouldn’t just expect all of the obligatory games to show up, but also some nifty little titles that discovered new ways to unsettle and surprise players.

Combining a celebration of past and future titles is the perfect way to unite fans of the genre, since anyone who may not have been invested enough to have a look back at older titles will certainly be intrigued by the notion of any key reveals.
