In an exclusive interview with Weekly ASCII Japan, Naoki Yoshida, the acclaimed producer of the highly anticipated action RPG, Final Fantasy XVI, shared some insights into the development plans for the PC version of the sixteenth major installment in the Final Fantasy series.
With Final Fantasy XVI currently tied to a time-limited exclusive deal with PlayStation, it suggests that after the exclusivity period, the game will eventually make its way to PC and possibly other platforms. However, Yoshida has previously stated that fans should not anticipate the PC version to arrive within six months even after the exclusive deal ends. This is mainly due to the substantial time and money invested in optimizing the game for PS5, leading developers to encourage fans to acquire the PS5 version rather than wait for the PC release. The producer has also disclosed in earlier interviews that developers are not prioritizing the development of any Final Fantasy XVI DLCs as they regard it as a “one-off game.”
Today, Yoshida reaffirmed to Weekly ASCII Japan that the team would consider introducing updates for Final Fantasy XVI if the game received positive feedback. However, he explained that they have developed the game with an aim to deliver a volume that will allow players to enjoy 100% of the story and battle content if fans purchase the package, implying that release of additional updates would not be a focus after the initial launch.
Yoshida also revealed that they would be taking their time to work carefully on the development of the PC version after the PS5 release. This version will likely be released in 2024 or later, as the producer clarified that the PC port will not arrive anytime soon, even after the PS5 timed exclusivity ends.
In Final Fantasy XVI, players will control the main character, Clive, who gains access to the powers of various summoned monsters. The game boasts high-speed and stylish battles and is the first to feature real-time action battles in the series. It is slated to be released on June 22, 2023 for the PlayStation 5.
Players eager to embark on the Final Fantasy XVI adventure and wish to receive some bonuses may now pre-order the digital standard and deluxe editions of the game on the PlayStation store.
