Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and XVI Have Limited PlayStation Exclusivity

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and XVI will only be exclusive to PlayStation for a short period of time, but this may not be good news for Xbox players.

Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch as PlayStation exclusives, but only for three months. While this may seem like great news for those on Xbox, we’d recommend not getting your hopes up.

As shown in a tweet, Final Fantasy 16 (FF XVI) will remain exclusive to PlayStation until December 31, 2023, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch on February 29, 2024, and remain exclusive to PlayStation until May 29, 2024. There is initial hope that both these games are coming to Xbox, but there needs to be proof that it will. In fact, there’s more evidence that only XVI will have a possibility of making it to Xbox.

As a Twitter user pointed out, Final Fantasy VII Remake was also a PlayStation exclusive for a limited time, but only made it to PC after that limitation was lifted. It still has yet even to announce that it’s coming to Xbox. Square Enix has a tendency to prioritize PlayStation platforms for its big releases and do a PC release following the PlayStation launch. I’d say that Xbox players like myself won’t get these games at all. Final Fantasy XVI and Rebirth may follow a similar trajectory, possibly remaining as PlayStation exclusives for an extended period, if not permanently.

Final Fantasy VII and XVI have done very well, and there is a strong fanbase. Some people in that same fanbase may have moved away from PlayStation and might feel left out. However, the trend for the VII remake is to stay exclusive to Sony.

The possibility of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth eventually making its way to Xbox platforms cannot be completely ruled out, but gamers shouldn’t hold their breath. I’d love to see Final Fantasy come to Xbox, but until they make an official announcement, the exclusivity may only be to keep the game on PC. Until then, it’s a better bet that we’re not going to see it come.

If you’re eager to know how long you have left until you can play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, we have an FF7 Rebirth countdown, ticking down the time until we can reunite with Cloud and resume his epic adventure outside of Midgar!
