Fans of the Final Fantasy series were in for a treat at PAX as the environments and exploration trailer for the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI was revealed. Final Fantasy XVI is set in the land of Valisthea, where the fate of the world is decided by mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them. Players will experience the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria,” who is sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix. Clive soon becomes entangled in a great tragedy and swears revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity causing calamity.
The game’s story unfolds as the sun sets upon Valisthea, and the struggle over the final flickers of the Mothercrystals’ light grows increasingly fierce. Bloody battles rage across the realm, with rival nations sending their ultimate weapons against each other: the Dominants. Clive Rosfield’s journey will lead him to the dark truth at the heart of Valisthea and a mission to destroy the Mothercrystals that the realm holds sacred.
Final Fantasy XVI features a rich cast of characters, including Clive’s younger brother Joshua, a Dominant with the power of the Phoenix; Jill Warrick, a ward of Rosaria and trusted confidant to the brothers; Benedikta Harman, Dominant of the Eikon Garuda and Warden of the Wind; Hugo Kupka, Dominant of the Eikon Titan and influential Dhalmekian politician; Dion Lesage, crown prince of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque and leader of the dragoons; and Barnabas Tharmr, a king who rose to power through his skill with a blade and his alliance with the Eikon Odin.
