The Noir genre has been explored a lot more in games recently, with dark themes and dour characters taking on the darker edges of the world. In the newly announced first-person horror title, The Great Below, players will explore a mind-bending adventure as they try to escape a mansion seeped in the darkness.

As a nameless protagonist, players are set on a simple journey of finding the Object that provides incredible wisdom and enlightenment. In that search, players have found themselves in a mansion that’s constantly playing tricks on them and seeking to take the player’s mind into the abyss. The Great Below seeks to change conventional horror by mixing unique 2D and 3D visuals to truly immerse players.

The Great Below also has more retro visuals, drawing inspiration from the games from the original PlayStation console. Through grainy black-and-white visuals, players will feel the unique Noir vibe that Dobra Studios is working to give off. The surrealist themes will ensure that players are never comfortable as a mysterious mansion tries to take them forever.

There is currently no official release date for The Great Below, but Dobra Games announced that it is currently planned for a release sometime later this year.
