Formula Retro Racing – World Tour, an indie arcade-style retro racing game from Repixel8 and CGA Studio, is officially getting a special edition release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It will arrive in October 2023, according to a new tweet from publisher Numskull Games.

The special edition will include a physical copy of the game, 2 stickers, 6 exclusive unique tracks, reversed track variants, and more. There’s currently no word on a physical release for Xbox.

Formula Retro Racing – World Tour recently launched in March 2023. It’s available now on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and the Nintendo Switch. You can watch today’s trailer for the special edition on Numskull Games’ YouTube channel:

At first glance, Formula Retro Racing – World Tour doesn’t seem to add very much to the arcade racing genre. There’s plenty of competition with fantasy racing games with the likes of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, which recently revealed a new trailer and happens to include an arcade-themed course.

However, Formula Retro Racing – World Tour is an overlooked indie that blends some realism from modern racing games with the facade of the arcade classics. Those retro games often thrive on impossible physics and speed, and they tend to feel more like gliding than driving. But most fans of the genre already enjoy both styles.

Formula Retro Racing – World Tour also lives up to its name, providing a wide range of familiar landmarks. These include tracks for New York, London, Rome, Tokyo, and even less obvious selections like Alabama Oval.

The special physical edition doesn’t feature any standout components, though the stickers might be fun for those who grew up putting them on Hot Wheels. But the exclusive content is a great gesture, and definitely a good incentive for those who might already own the game.
