Fortnite fans have been treated to plenty of leaks today, including a brand-new image that suggests a first-person point of view could be added soon.

The leaked image recently popped up on Twitter, showing the potential HUD for gameplay:

According to leaks, this first-person camera mechanic is still far from complete, so fans shouldn’t expect the big change any time soon.

While many fans are up in arms about the addition, it’s possible that first-person will simply be optional, or even a limited time mode. In fact, Battle Royale peer Apex Legends temporarily borrowed third-person gameplay for a LTM too, a few seasons ago.

Adding a new first-person camera could be intended to compete with these kinds of games in the genre. But Third-person gameplay is one of the defining characteristics of Fortnite, working hand-in-hand with massive maps and the heavy building elements.

That’s why fans and the leaker alike have pointed out that a first-person POV could be a brilliant addition to Zero Build Modes, a playlist which was solely introduced to remove all building components.

Just as Zero Build Modes were added to invite different types of gamers, it’s most likely that a first-person camera is simply meant to expand the playerbase with those who are accustomed to first-person shooters.

After all, some of the biggest games in both Battle Royale and free-to-play offer a first-person experience, such as Call of Duty: Warzone or Halo. Of course, those have a very different tone, and some players have even noted motion sickness as a potential downside to first-person.

Although an equal share of fans are upset or delighted with the addition of a new camera, it’s easy to trust Fortnite’s devs to shake up the meta in necessary ways to keep the population high. It remains one of the strongest, lasting video games on any platform.
