Gamedec, the isometric cyberpunk RPG from Anshar Studios and Anshar Publishing, will officially release on April 22nd, 2023. The release coincides with the celebration of Record Store Day, which supports independent stores. Here’s the new soundtrack release date announcement from the Gamedec Twitter feed:

Gamedec originally launched in September of 2021, and is currently available on PC, Nintendo Switch, or PlayStation 5. A definitive edition for the PS5 was just released last month, including physical copies:

Gamedec has continued to receive a lot of praise for its decision-based mechanics. The devs borrow a lot of familiar cyberpunk themes, but they serve a genuine purpose, as its flexibility fits the kind of choices players must make. There is a better sense of freedom in this game than many comparable titles, including those with a bigger budget. That may be due to its novel, tabletop approach.

The devs don’t just wield the cyberpunk genre, but also understand it, aside from the traditional visual cues. Music plays a very large role in the cyberpunk genre, with its signature synth sounds.

Synth has its own rhythmic alliteration, building layers that can feel equally meditative and exhilarating. It’s crucial for these electronic beats to establish the right kind of atmosphere.

Gamedec’s soundtrack would be a delight to listen to, even years after launch. Like the game mechanics, Gamedec’s music both follows and subverts its genre, with interesting little twists that make it just distinguishable enough.

It’s also much appreciated that the devs saw fit to call attention to Record Store Day. Small record stores deserve more support, encouraging in-person discourse and discovery. Also, it seems like Gamedec’s soundtrack will be available on vinyl. While that may sound odd for some, particularly for Gamedec’s cyberpunk world, vinyl is a very different kind of experience.
