Greyhill Incident, an upcoming survival horror indie from developer and publisher Refugium Games, has just revealed that it will launch on June 9th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Here’s the full release date trailer from Refugium Games’ official YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer for Greyhill Incident has hinted at a very odd tone. The visuals are aiming for genuine creepiness, while the performances, dialogue, and other content seem to be leaning towards playful fun.
For example, desperately searching for tin foil doesn’t really line up with the shadowy dread of the environments. There are even a few cinematic shots that feel pretty unsettling.
Of course, the game is also set in the 90’s, and even the Steam page nods to The X-Files, which freely indulged a sense of humor now and then. The most obvious alien in that show was used for comedic effect, smoking in disbelief after getting abducted itself. Meanwhile, the straightforward Greys in Greyhill Incident have a Dark Skies style to them instead of something more menacing or unexpected.
Ideally, the game will be able to successfully blend scares and charm. For now, Greyhill Incident looks like solid B-movie fun. There are a lot of great references to classic alien imagery, and the first-person survival approach is smart.
Still, this kind of gameplay would have been even more suited for a VR experience. And since it supports PlayStation, it’d be nice to see the game on PS VR2 sometime. After all, that console just launched this week, and Greyhill Incident only recently announced its console release. There’s still plenty of time for a VR port, as well as appearances on Game Pass or PS Plus.
