Gunbrella, an upcoming action-adventure and side-scroller from developer doinksoft and publisher Devolver Digital, has just released a new gameplay trailer.
It showcases a variety of uses for the titular tool, which can be wielded for combat, movement, and even map progression. While new lore has not been revealed, it’s best to leave mystery intact for any investigation-driven game.
Gunbrella has not confirmed a release date yet, but it’s aiming to launch this year. It will be available on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, where you can wishlist the game today and try a demo. You can watch today’s “Multitool of the Trade” trailer on the Devolver Digital YouTube channel:
Gunbrella features a pretty bleak world of murder, corporate exploitation, and deterioration. But it does have a touch of the bizarre, including colorful characters and even monstrous ghouls. Alongside the titular weapon, Gunbrella is filled with pulpy excitement too.
Today’s trailer proves just how creative the devs got with the gunbrella’s flexibility, elevating it beyond a mere novelty. True, it needs to be upgraded like many traditional weapons, and today’s trailer doesn’t introduce very interesting repairs. But mastering the physics and abilities of the gunbrella looks very rewarding during combat.
The game’s Steam page confirms that the gunbrella allows players to “glide, swing, dash, and dive”, allowing you to freely adapt to enemy fire. There’s a distinct level of freedom and strategy in this, which should help distinguish Gunbrella from its many side-scrolling peers.
Gunbrella’s signature tool also makes its world more immersive, because it’s now clear just how much the gunbrella will interact with the environment. It’s both representative of the world and the key to overcoming it.
