GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, the online PvP card battler from developer and publisher CD PROJEKT RED, has just released the official patch notes for Update 11.3. The new patch will roll out tomorrow, March 7th, 2023. The update will feature major changes to Draft, as well as traditional balancing changes and bug fixes. Here’s the big announcement from GWENT: The Witcher Card Game’s Twitter feed:
Many of the upcoming changes to Draft are built to “future-proof” the mode, a buzz word that frequently appears between the patch notes and the dev stream that accompanied it today.
That’s going to make a serious difference, since GWENT: The Witcher Card Game first launched five years ago, and the devs plan on winding it down. Ideally, stable systems need to be in place for players to continue enjoying the game once new cards are no longer added, and simple maintenance becomes the new priority.
A roadmap GWENT: The Witcher Card Game revealed that there will be three more card drops in 2023. They will roll out in April, July, and September. The devs elaborated on this in a full stream back in December 2022, which you can review here for details:
The emphasis on randomness should prove very effective, and it’s a little odd that some of these changes weren’t added sooner. The chance to draw something from the full ownable pool should definitely improve the element of surprise. This would also smooth over the introduction of new cards, although there are only so many cards left to anticipate.
The option to add another random package after each match will also create more versatility, and opportunities for the tide to change. This is a step in the right direction for longtime fans to enjoy Draft without new cards shaking up the meta every year.
