The June 2023 Nintendo Direct had more party games coming to the Nintendo Switch than you could keep up with, including a new Warioware title releasing later this year. A lesser-noticed party game that looks to add a musical spin on the variety formula is Headbangers Rhythm Royale, and it’s releasing on Oct. 31, this year.

The trailer showcases a variety of different minigames based on everything from memorization to reaction time, all from the player-controlled pigeons. There’s a lot of head-bobbing and singing from the noisy birds, including multiple staged performances with the pigeons dressed in musical genre-specific costumes.

The customization looks to give players diverse options in how their pigeons look, even if there isn’t much to differentiate them outside of that. Regardless, the title will support online and local multiplayer, meaning you can go against your friends to see who is the best at being a singing and dancing pigeon.

In addition to copyright-free music heard in the trailer, a number of compositions in this title were composed by the developers, themselves. As players go through the levels, they’ll have an opportunity to jam out while they compete.

Headbangers Rhythm Royale is the latest title from developer Glee-Cheese and is being published by Team17. This isn’t the first musical game developed by Glee-Cheese, with the developer releasing the narrative-driven A Musical Story last year. This title seems to be playing into their talents while also providing a likely live-service element as well.

The title will be released on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and the Windows Store on Oct 31, allowing players to dress up their pigeons and have some good times to celebrate Halloween.
